How much is your adoption fee and what does that include?

Cats: $55 which includes first shots, worming, spay/neuter, and the feline leukemia test, and micro-chip.
Dogs: $80 which includes first shots, worming and spay/neuter, and micro-chip.

What should I do if my pet is lost?

Call the Animal Control Officer at the Polk County Sheriff's office. (828) 894-3001. Check with all of the local animal shelters to see if your pet has been brought in, and to notify them that your pet is missing. Make sure that your pet has identification tags and a rabies tag on his/her collar. Also check our "Lost or Found a Pet?" page.

Does my new pet have to be neutered before he/she can go home?

Yes, our policy states that every animal that leaves FHS must be altered.

Do you offer spay/neuter assistance?

Yes, we do. Our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program or SNAP offers residents of Polk County, NC and Landrum, Campobello and Gowensville, SC assistance in the form of either a discount coupon accepted by certian area vets or a $10 co-pay voucher. Discounts are in the amount of $20.00 off the price of spay/neuter for a cat or $30.00 off the price of spay/neuter for a dog. If you are in financial need, the voucher program is the most affordable option. Foothills Humane Society pays for your pet to be spayed/neutered at the vet of our choice. You only pay $10. If a rabies vaccination is required you will pay the vet at the time of surgery along with any other treatment or vaccinations you an the vet agree upon. Both options are funded by donations from our supporters. Please bring your ID and proof of your residence address to the shelter to sign up for either program. Please call the shelter to confirm that vouchers are still available as there are a limited number each month.

Can we put an animal on hold?

No, this is unfair to the animal. You must be willing and able to take an animal home as soon as it is ready to be picked up.

What kind of animals do you have?

We have so many animals come in daily that it would be best if you came to the shelter. You can also look at our pets available for adoption online. Our list is updated daily.

Do you give rabies shots?

Monthly Rabies and Microchip clinics are held at the shelter. The dates are posted here on our website.

Do you pick up animals?

No, we do not pick up animals. If you find a stray animal call the local Animal Control Officer at the Polk County Sheriffs Office (828-894-3001).
