1. How much is your adoption fee and what does that include? Cats: $50 which includes first shots, worming, spay/neuter, and the feline leukemia test. Dogs: $75 which includes first shots, worming and spay/neuter 2. What should I do if my pet is lost? Call the Animal Control Officer at the Polk County Sheriff's office. (828) 894-3001. Check with all of the local animal shelters to see if your pet has been brought in, and to notify them that your pet is missing. Make sure that your pet has identification tags and a rabies tag on his/her collar. Also check our "Lost or Found a Pet?" Page on this website. 3. Do you euthanize, and how long do you wait? Yes, we do euthanize due to the overpopulation of the animals. We do not have a set time period. All animals stay as long as they do not show severe signs of stress and are healthy. 4. Can you call me before you euthanize an animal that I have brought in? No. In order to protect your feelings, the legal rights and privacy of future owners, and our staff well being, please be sure that your decision to transfer animal(s) to the F.H.S. is final and definite before you leave the shelter. After you sign them over to us, they belong to the Foothills Humane Society 5. Does my new pet have to be neutered before he/she can go home? Yes, our policy states that every animal that leaves FHS must be altered. The only time an animal may leave without being neutered/spayed is when the animal is too young to have the surgery, in which case the adoption becomes a pending adoption. 6. Do you offer spay/neuter assistance? Yes, we do. Please call us at 828-863-4444 and speak to one of our staff members. This removes $20 off the cost of a cat and $30 off the cost of a dog. We also have a monthly $8.00 Spay/Neuter Program in which we help owners get their animals spayed/neutered for only $8.00 when they may not be able to otherwise for financial reasons. This program is open ONLY to citizens of POLK COUNTY, LANDRUM, CAMPOBELLO, AND GOWENSVILLE 7. Can we put an animal on hold? No, this is unfair to the animal. 8. What kind of animals do you have? We have so many animals come in daily that it would be best if you came to the shelter. You can also look at our pets available for adoption online. This is updated daily. You can also look on www.petfinders.org. 9. Do you give rabies shots? No, only a licensed veterinarian can give rabies vaccinations. 10. Do you pick up animals? No, we do not pick up animals. If you find a stray animal call the local Animal Control Officer at the Polk County Sheriffs Office (828-863-3001). 11. What are your hours?
