Why Adopt

WHY ADOPT FROM FOOTHILLS HUMANE SOCIETY?

Former feral Oprah helps mom

We cannot imagine our lives without our animals, and the joy, fun and unconditional love and loyalty they give us. They are our companions, our friends, our partners. We love them, and they give us SO much. We hope that FHS can be the “matchmaker” to help you find a loving, loyal partner.

Have a Heart and Save a Life with the Adoption Option!

Our animals receive full medical screening, are given appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped for ID, and have 30 days of insurance protection from ShelterCare. All of these services are included in the adoption fee.

  • You will be “part of the solution,” preventing future unwanted animals and reducing the tragedy of homeless pets. Adopting from FHS reduces demand and the over- breeding of pets by breeders and puppy mills.

  • We will help you select the right pet for your lifestyle to ensure a lifetime of love and companionship and provide help and support as you welcome your new pet into your home.

  • You will be giving a great animal the chance he or she deserves.

What Animal is Right for YOU?

Gabe and his best friend, Rocky

Sharing your home with anyone, especially a companion animal who loves and depends entirely on YOU, is a serious and important decision. Time, space, financial ability, potential conflicts, the needs of other family members and many other factors go into making a successful relationship.

We think of ourselves as “matchmakers”. Our goal is to provide you the information, support and resources to ensure a appropriate choice for the companion animal that will enhance your life.

How to Adopt

Foothills welcomes your application to adopt and provide a loving home for one of its wonderful animals.  The adoption process includes:

Submitting an Adoption Application, a veterinarian check of rabies vaccination for existing pets, and vet arrangements for all animals still requiring spay/neuter. For animals too young to be neutered, a $100 deposit, refundable when the operation is completed, is collected.

Please understand that our primary responsibility is to the animals, and we want to ensure that the adoptive owner is a good match. Therefore, we reserve the right to refuse any adoption application, and will choose the best, not the first, applicant.

Call the Shelter today at 828-863-4444 for Adoption fees and information.

Ownership of animals transfers upon completion of the paperwork and payment of the adoption fees.
