Rules & Policies
Per NC state law an animal that has been at the shelter for 72 hours becomes the property of Foothills Humane Society. If you believe the found pet is yours, please call 828-863-4444.
North Carolina General Statute (NCGS) 130A-185 states that, “any person adopting or reclaiming any animal at the animal shelter shall have the animal vaccinated prior to leaving the shelter.” Therefore, owners reclaiming their animals must either provide proof that the animal has been vaccinated against rabies or must provide permission to FHS to vaccinate the animal prior to leaving the shelter. Owners will be charged $15 for the rabies vaccine if it is administered.
Reporting a Lost/Found Pet
If you have a missing pet or have found a pet within Polk County, NC, please fill out the Lost/Found Pet Form. Filling out the form creates a visible, descriptive listing for others to see right here on our website. We encourage you to only list pets that are within our service area to better assist our community. Please be as descriptive as possible for both pet and location.
